President Dan's Demotion Party
We all gathered at President Dan Reddell's Caccia House for a grand party. We started with wine and soft drinks and splendid guitar music, thanks to John Nordhus and Paul Johnson.

George Leage and his crew from the Harbor Hut grilled skewers of chicken, beef and shrimp, which were accompanied by pasta salad loaded with crab and shrimp. Dessert featured gorgeous cheesecakes.

Ringmaster Judy Salamacha had a few glasses of wine before taking the microphone to start our program. She was very entertaining, without really meaning to be quite so amusing. She presented Dan and Janné with a beautiful pillow created especially for them by our star quilter, Claire Grantham.

President Dan asked his old friend, Sid Bennett, to provide the invocation for his last meeting. Dan said his year was successful because he gave Frank Martinez time to finish his craft talk. Frank informed us he has more to say.

Dan bemoaned the fact that our expert on everything, Chuck Clarke, was unable to provide the three-legged sled dog show during his year. Maybe next year.

Dan said the worst event of the year was the sad loss of Galen Brunner, our secretary and dear friend. We had a moment of silence to reflect on Galen and what a wonderful friend he was to all of us. Thankfully, Lisa Wilson has stepped into the secretary's spot and managed to update all the records. It is indeed a thankless job and also a difficult one.

Dan asked everyone with perfect attendance to stand. As you know, there are many ways to make up meetings and also many opportunities to do so

Dan pointed out that Frank Martinez has 45 years of perfect attendance with our club and 53-1/2 years total. Bob Ransom beats him by a few years, with 60 years of perfect attendance.

Dan honored those who made a big difference in the club this past year. Jack Barrett for the 50-50 drawing and greeting everyone, Sid Bennett for obtaining a district grant, Dr. Art Fenderson for taking Polaroid photos of our guests, Gary Owens for collecting fines, Don Doubledee for running the car show, Rick Grantham for acting as Finemaster, Andrea Klipfel for her upbeat and positive stock market reports, Tom Hay for printing Prius brochures free of charge, and Jerry Hartzell for doing the incredible amount of bookkeeping for the Prius raffle.

Dan thanked his board of directors for all their hard work, Secretary Lisa Wilson, Web Administrator Ruth Ann Angus, Public Relations Chair Bruce Harwood, Club Administrator June Stephens, Membership Chair Nick Mendoza, Community Projects Director Jude Long, Rotary Foundation Director Chungsam Doh, Sergeant-of-Arms Jim Sanders, RYLA Coordinator, New Generations and Director at Large Stuart McElhinney, and Treasurer and Expert-on-All-Matters Chuck Clarke. He gave special thanks to his long-suffering brother, Dale.

Dan chose Mary Leizear as Rotarian of the Year for providing the club with a weekly bulletin.

Dan thanked his beautiful Janné for all her patience and perseverance and help throughout the year. He always had his Rotary pin on his shirt on Tuesdays, thanks to her gentle reminders. He said any clever remarks he ever made were probably due to her inspiration.

In order to save money, Dan graciously presented his president's pin to John Weiss. The diamond president's pin costs $400, so it was quite a nice saving for the club.

Dan asked us to forgive him if he left anybody out. We gave him a standing ovation and welcomed John Weiss to the presidency.

John said we will have a very good year, and he and Christine had a fine time in England and learned a lot about Rotary.

John reminded us that the lunch line will start at 11:45 a.m. The meeting will start at noon and we will be done by 1 p.m. every Tuesday from now on.

We are very blessed to have such a great club, and we all look forward to a good year filled with beneficial community service - and lots of fun and camaraderie too.
