Morro Bay Maritime Museum
Sep. 01, 2020 12:00 p.m.
Scott Mather, one of several new Board Members at the Morro Bay Maritime Museum, began work in Morro Bay in 1972 at the Morro Bay Marina, a full service marina, which is now Marina Square. Besides other things, he ran the "Clam Taxi" taking folks back and forth to the Sandspit. He was then employed by Anyone Sylvester Tug Service and is well versed on the history of the Alma and the Montebello incident. He captained the San Mateo whale watching cruises and remembers the day vividly when she capsized entering MB Harbor. He’s also captained for Virg’s Landing and the Tiger’s Folly II. As a member of the Great American Flatboat Expedition, he sailed from Montana to New Orleans, plus operated Oil Pollution Tugs for Exxon. In 1996 he was hired by the City of Morro Bay as a full time Harbor Patrol Officer and I’m positive has stories to tell about the drama on the bay. For years he aided of the future development of the MB Maritime by housing the Alma and other vessels in the Harbor Yard during their restorations. Join us for a rare treat to hear first hand from Scott how even during COVID-19, the museum become an historical presence on the Embarcader; a true asset for future generations of residents and tourists to learn about Morro Bay’s waterfront past.

This year’s election changes and support for 100 years since the 19th Amendment gave women the vote
Sep. 08, 2020 12:00 p.m.
Voting in 2020 will be different and as always before important. Could this be a new normal for voting. Maybe. Could it be a beginning for Morro Bay Rotary to become a support group for exercising our right to choose our leadership? Maybe. Regardless, we all need to know what to expect and today Susan Devine and Glenn Silloway, directors for the League of Women Voters, will provide an independent, non-partisan explanation of Elections in SLO County 2020. Susan Devine has been a League Of Women voters member for about 20 years and has been involved with both the Voter Services team and the Civil Discourse project. She believes voting is extremely important to our democracy and is passionate about voting rights and encouraging voters to actually cast their vote in every election. Glenn Silloway is one of 3 men on the Board of the League of Women Voters of San Luis Obispo County. The League’s mission is both non partisan and gender neutral: get people to register, learn the issues, and vote. Note: Glenn has also spoken to MB Rotary before but in his capacity as President of the Historical Society of Morro Bay. |
