Hello Everyone,
I am sending this special bulletin to clarify how the Relay for Life event works.

First of all, thank you to everyone who donated into my luminaria bags at the meeting on Tuesday. That raised over $140! So far I have raised nearly $400 as my participation in this event.

Relay For Life is a fundraiser. What this means is that every participant is required to raise some funds. The amount per participant is usually $100. Our club's pledge for this event is $1000. With the nearly $400 I have already raised we are well on our way to that goal. So those of you who are planning to walk the walk with me at the high school need to raise some funds. It does not have to be $100 this time since we have relatively little time to do that. So, any amount will suffice! Even $10!

How do you do this? I sent an e-mail out to everyone on my address list and asked them to support me in this event. I wrote some of the e-mail myself and also used a letter that the American Cancer Society has on their web site. The people who you contact that want to donate can do so directly onto the web site. The web address is www.relayforlife.org/morrobayca. As soon as you get into the web site you will see the headings on top and one of the headings is DONATE. Your donors can click on that heading and donate online. If they prefer to donate by check they can make that out to American Cancer Society and indicate Relay for Life for Morro Bay and give you the check which you can turn in to me.

The ACS Relay people suggest that each participant donate $20 themselves and ask 4 friends to donate $20. Or ask 10 friends for $10.00 or 20 friends to donate $5.00. Explain to people what they are donating for -- to continue to fund research on cancer to find better treatment options and hopefully, a cure! The funds also support the many supportive things that the American Cancer Society provides to people battling cancer.

Those of you who are planning to participate need to get the information on the forms to me ASAP. You can e-mail the information. I don't actually need the forms. My e-mail is candidcow@charter.net. Or if you feel confident about using the web site you can go onto the Relay for Life web site for Morro Bay and enter your participation there. Our team is listed and you would click on that and follow the directions to add your participation.

As soon as we have the number of people registered, I will find out how we allocate the timing of the walking. I do not expect anyone to walk in the late night or wee early morning hours, but we can fill in the daytime hours with good participation.

I hope that this clarifies how this event works and I apologize if there has been any confusion. I have never done this event before so to tell you the truth I was pretty much in the dark myself up until a few days ago. This being Morro Bay's first Relay, it will take some doing to work out the kinks, but I think we are going to have a really good Relay.

I want to extend my thanks and gratitude to all of you who are supporting this. I look on it as a personal support for me and that is what makes it even more special. So thank you all so much. I look forward to walking with you on Relay day!
