PROGRAM
John W.  introduced Kelly Vanderheuvel (who used to be a member of our club and we do miss her!) from Pacific Wildlife, an organization that has been in existence for over 30 years.  Pacific Wildlife rehabilitates sick, injured and orphaned animals (no domestic animals).  Kelly has always brought in some great animals, but today she brought in Mrs. Handsome-so named as until just abit ago, the gender was believed to be male.  Mrs. Handsome is a vulture who hails from the stork family – who the heck knew that?  Not me.  Vultures are not raptors, even though they look scary, but only eat dead things.  They don’t have feathers on their little faces so that when they are eating the dead things, their faces stay cleaner-picture food crumbs in a beard.  Kelly also told us that when they feel threatened, they throw up the dead things they just ate –which serves as a deterrent-duh.  They also urinate on their own legs – but I can’t remember why.  Kelly shared that Pacific Wildlife now has a full-time vet on duty and they have been very busy this last year.

As usual with Kelly and the Pacific Wildlife program, it was great and super interesting.  Mrs. Handsome, who has not been out a lot, was abit nervous during the program and Kelly just handled her with such care and continued to talk – very impressive!

CLOSING
Tom Hay was the big winner of the 50/50!

President Nick closed the meeting, Happy Trails All!
