PROGRAM
Claire Haslet, age 11, was selected as a Children’s Congress Delegate to the Juvenile Diabetes Summit in Washington D.C.   Important to mention Claire’s age as the banter around our table prior to her telling us her age was a guess that she was 17 or 18, due to her phenomenal expertise in public speaking.  Claire explained how  she become a candidate, through a hefty selection process (she and 162 others were chosen from a field of 1700 applications), she  then shared the activities that she engaged in in Washington D.C. in an attempt to stimulate more funding and research to cure Juvenile Diabetes Type 1.  Claire shared that she was diagnosed at age 5 and uses an insulin pump to control her levels which also allowed her to be a gymnast.  She explained the difference between Type 1 and 2 diabetes.  The Rotary Club of Morro Bay was her 15th recent speaking engagement locally and she is exciting about some recent research that is being done regarding beta cell’s that may lead to a cure.

CLOSING
Carol reminded the club members that there were boxes to mail to the troops for $15.09 each and to please make sure they all were picked up today

We continued with the new process for the 50/50, Sid Bennet had the winning ticket and had a chance to draw the white poker chip and win the pot, or draw the black poker chip and have the pot continue to next week – unfortunately Sid was a loser and the pot was a winner.
