PROGRAM
Carol Stern of the SLO County Genealogical Society was our speaker today.  She is originally from the Bronx and has a large family.  Her great aunt, some years ago, made Carol sit down and learn about her family and how they died.  When she moved from the San Fernando Valley to Los Osos, she re-discovered her notes and genealogical information.  Her family was comprised of Jewish immigrants and by conducting a genealogical survey she found about her background.

She has realized that sharing genealogical information with stories makes it very interesting to both young and old.  She has put her information in the form of a resume which she hopes will be of interest to her children at some time.

She also shared that she had a box of photographs, started by working on a Family Tree and took a class on genealogy.  She started by just adding the information that she knew, and encourages others when they begin this venture - “write down what you know”.  Also interview people you know or interview yourself, recording voices – making family stories and family history – leaving stories for others.  Then identify the holes that are missing and search/research for that information.

Carol provided a number of handouts and websites to begin your own search.  There best sources to begin are Ancestory.com, Genealogy Club and Family Search

CLOSING
Carol reminded the club members that there were boxes to mail to the troops for $15.09 each and to please make sure they all were picked up today

We continued with the new process for the 50/50 pot is $173, Doug Riddell had the winning ticket and had a chance to draw the white poker chip and win the pot, or draw the black poker chip and have the pot continue to next week – unfortunately Doug was a loser and the pot was a winner.  We’re looking at big bucks next week!!!
